It’s no secret that Rangers are on the hunt for new centre backs, but in Tomas Kalas, it looks like they’re about to be priced out of a move.
The Chelsea defender has spent the season on loan at Bristol City. The big Czech stopper has impressed in the Championship this season and Rangers were amongst a host of clubs reported to be interested.
But in responding to an enquiry about the player’s Bristol City future, journalist Alan Nixon claims Chelsea expect clubs to cough up for the player.
Heard Kalas would go to highest bidder this summer. So if u want him it will probably cost. https://t.co/a3h40ChOhU

Rangers were first linked to Tomas Kalas back in March [Scottish Sun]. The story claimed that Rangers were set to battle it out with Celtic for the player’s signature.
Whether Rangers truly were willing to enter a bidding war with Celtic remains to be seen. But it does seem awfully unlikely.
Celtic too could well be priced out of a move for the player should the megabucks of the English Premier League get involved. Even certain sides in the English Championship can financially outmuscle the Old Firm.
And if Chelsea want clubs to stump up for Kalas signature, Rangers are likely to look elsewhere.
It’s not the first centre back disappointment of the summer. Granted, the deal for Mexer – who eventually went to Bordeaux – appeared considerably closer than this one.
