Rangers are reportedly interested in signing Czech Republic centre half Tomas Kalas in the summer transfer window.

According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers will battle rivals Celtic for the signature of the Chelsea owned Bristol City defender.

The defender – who The Scottish Sun rates at £5m – has been on fine form for Championship outfit City.

Tomas Kalas, 25, has been at Chelsea since he was a 16 year old. Bristol City is the defender’s seventh loan spell away from Stamford Bridge but the report suggests Chelsea may well decide to move him on permanently.

A dominant physical presence, Kalas has 19 caps for the Czech Republic and would be a shrewd addition.

However, the hefty £5m may prove a stumbling block, for either Old Firm side. It’s a considerable amount to shell out on a player for a Scottish club.

The defender can also operate as a right back and would be a versatile addition to the squad.
