Rangers have been handed an apparent boost by the news that Josh Maja is “unlikely” to sign a new contract with Bordeaux despite a rumbling court case regarding Ligue 1 promotion.
All Nigeria Soccer are claiming that it’s looking increasingly doubtful that 24-year-old striker Josh Maja will sign a new contract at the former Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux despite the high-profile dispute.

Bordeaux are currently taking an appeal to the French Olympic Committee over the decision to rule against them following the abandonment of their final game of the season against Rodez.
A Bordeaux fan attacked a rival player, leading to the game eventually being abandoned, with Rodez being awarded the three points, keeping them in Ligue 2, and Bordeaux being defeated, meaning Metz were promoted to Ligue 1 instead.
The controversial decision has a knock-on effect with regards to Josh Maja and Rangers’ apparent pursuit of the striker because reports have suggested Bordeaux have a one-year contract extension option in the event of promotion.
Rangers-linked Josh Maja “unlikely” to sign Bordeaux deal
Despite this clause, it is now looking “unlikely” that Josh Maja will sign a new contract with his current deal at Bordeaux set to expire come the end of the month.
It’s the second piece of high-profile news attached to the striker this week, with recent reports also suggesting Rangers will face stiff competition for the player’s signature.
According to claims coming out of Voetbal Nieuws in Belgium, English Premier League Fulham, with whom Josh Maja spent some time on loan from Bordeaux, are also suitors of the Rangers-linked attacker.
La Liga side Real Valladolid have been mentioned in the past, and are once again mentioned in the report, whilst Belgian side Anderlecht are another reported option for the former Sunderland striker.

Whilst Rangers have been heavily linked to other players in the transfer market, most notably Cyriel Dessers, there is seemingly something to the constant reporting around Maja.
According to some, Rangers do hold a legitimate interest in Bordeaux striker Josh Maja, the out of contract star a long-term target at Ibrox.
