Rangers could face competition from Real Valladolid when it comes to Josh Maja, with the La Liga side reportedly interested in the Bordeaux striker.

In fact, according to a report in Foot Mercato which first appeared in France a few weeks ago, the Spanish outfit have even offered the Nigerian international a contract.

A host of unnamed Ligue 1 and English sides are also said to be interested, with the 24-year-old forward set for a raft of offers come the summer.

Interestingly, with four games left in La Liga Real Valladolid are only a point above the relegation zone and their potential pull for Maja would diminish considerably in the event of relegation.

Rangers set to face Josh Maja competition

Reports are swirling suggesting Rangers are interested in a move for Maja with the striker’s contract up at promotion chasing Bordeaux come the end of the season.

The former Sunderland striker’s 17 goals have been crucial to their Ligue 1 bid but a 0-0 draw with Quevilly-Rouen at the weekend means they sit clear in second by only one point heading into the final three games of the season.

Rangers have a clear interest in what happens with the French side, amid reports that Maja could trigger a contract extension if the club regain their top-flight status.

Maja has also directly responded to questions on the Rangers interest and, while he was coy on any potential deal, he refused to rule anything out as he focuses on Bordeaux’s promotion push.

Rangers are gearing up for what promises to be a busy transfer window, with several high profile players out of contract and expected to move on in the coming weeks.

Michael Beale has previously spoken about having identified one striker in particular with plenty previously connecting the dots to a move for Josh Maja.

But as things stand there’s been no official movement from within Ibrox, even if adding additional firepower will be top of the summer wish list.
