Nils Koppen will now turn his attention to the summer transfer window with plenty of time to identify new recruits for Rangers.

The manager is having to put up with his current squad until then with Philippe Clement looking to the academy for reinforcements.

One name that Rangers’ technical director could be looking at is Relebohile Mofokeng with the South Africa prodigy being told to focus on what he does best.

Mpho Makola, who played for Orlando Pirates too, has urged the 20-year old winger to stay humble, amid interest from Rangers and Barcelona:

“The rise is steady, and at this point, he needs to be protected just like all the promising youngsters we have,” Makola told FARPost.

“A lot of attention can be a distraction because what is needed now is to be consistent. He needs to be guided to reach his full potential for both club and country.

“That guidance and protection contributes a lot towards the end product. I’m happy to see him rise. But we must protect these young players, teach them to remain grounded and how to deal with so much attention.”

Why Rangers must move quickly to land players like Mofokeng

As things stand, Rangers could play in the second round of the Champions League qualification on the 22/23rd July.

This date will shift to 5/6th August if Benfica qualify automatically for the league phase and the Europa League winners have already qualified for the Champions League.

What this means, is that getting new recruits in early, like Mofokeng who is tipped to move to Europe, is hugely important to Clement’s chances of going better than last season and getting through the rounds to earn an extra £25-30m.

Unless the referee gets involved again that is.
