Rangers title race relies on short term futures of Tavernier and Morelos

It’s simple. Rangers title race is reliant on the club securing the short term future of their two biggest assets.
James Tavernier and Alfredo Morelos aren’t just our two big contributors of goals and assists. They’re far and away our two strongest and most valuable players.
Three points separate Rangers and Celtic at present and it’ll be a hell of a lot more if the duo go. I simply cannot see any other scenario. And there’s reportedly been plenty of interest in both of them.

The Daily Express reported a few days ago that Southampton were preparing an £8m bid for Tavernier. Steven Gerrard reportedly told The Scottish Sun yesterday that that wasn’t the case. Read our story on that
HERE.
The Daily Record reported last week that Nice were also preparing an £8m bid for Alfredo Morelos. Speaking to The Times, Steven Gerrard came out and suggested Rangers wouldn’t consider anything less than double that. You can also read our story on that HERE.

Both players pivotal in terms of goals and influence

James Tavernier has a lethal return for a wingback. The Rangers captain has nine goals and fourteen assists in 38 games. He’s pivotal to how we play, even if he did come under fire after the Killie result last week.
Against Livingston, we saw just how important Alfredo Morelos is to Rangers. The striker had a hand in all three goals and proved his value with his 21st strike of the season.
More than just score goals, he also creates them. His linkup play is superb and at times he doesn’t get enough credit for how good a team player he is. Morelos also has seven assists this season.

Whether up front himself or in a two with Jermain Defoe, he is always going to be one of the first names on the teamsheet. El Bufalo is that important. He also has more Scottish Premiership goals than anyone else since he made his debut last season.
Take either of these players out of the team and Rangers are considerably weakened. We won’t be able to replace their influence in this window.
If they go, there will be no Rangers title race at all.
