Steven Gerrard has come out firing after reports linked Rangers’ James Tavernier with a move to Premier League Southampton.
In an interview with The Sun, the Rangers manager insists the south coast club are not interested in his captain. Gerrard even claimed that he contacted Southampton himself about the rumoured interest.
“They’re not looking,” said Gerrard. “We made a call about it this morning and they’re not.

“I think there will be talk of Tav and talk of Alfredo before the window closes but the reality is there hasn’t been a respectable bid for any of our players so far.
“Will one come? Possibly. I’ll have to answer the question when it does.”
But now any move has been rubbished by Gers boss Gerrard.

It now looks like the player will remain at Ibrox this year, unless any bids come in. James Tavernier is an essential part of the Rangers side and has contributed nine goals and fourteen assists in 38 appearances this season.
He captained the side back to winning ways yesterday. The Gers defeated Livingston 3-0 in a comprehensive victory after the Englishman had issued a rallying cry midweek.
Tavernier joined Rangers from Wigan in 2015 and has played over 150 times for the club.
