There had been rumours circulating lately about the role of Rangers Technical Director Mark Allen at the club and some unrest. Some of them even touched on his relationship with Steven Gerrard.

These were inflamed today when Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd wrote a controversial column about the Rangers chief. He claimed the Technical Director doesn’t “fool” him. It had some fans pretty angry with the former Rangers striker.

But Steven Gerrard laughed off the comments, praising the role Mark Allen has had at the club.

“I don’t think Mark Allen will care too much about what Kris has said,” said Gerrard. “Because first of all he’s identified him as the Head of Recruitment and that’s not his role.

“Mark Allen’s the Technical Director of the football club and he’s done an incredible job since he’s walked through the door.

“He’s doing everything he can”

“When he’s come in there needed to be a lot of changes in the team, in the squad, in the staff, in Ibrox, at the training ground. He’s doing everything he can do improve things.

“If you look at where the club is now compared to what he walked into he should be applauded for the job he’s done.”

I think from the comments it’s pretty clear what Steven Gerrard thinks of Mark Allen and his role at the club. That should put to bed any rumours that Kris Boyd has in part helped to inflame.

Kris Boyd’s column also suggested that left back Borna Barisic doesn’t want to be at Ibrox. The left back has come in for harsh criticism for some uncommitted performances as of late.

In the same presser, Steven Gerrard challenged the Croatian international to rise to the challenge.
