Former Rangers’ striker Kris Boyd has made an extraordinary claim about current Rangers star Borna Barisic in a stinging Scottish Sun column.
Barisic has came in for a lot of criticism recently and Boyd believes it’s because he doesn’t want to be at Ibrox. Talk about being straight to the point.
The Scottish Premier League’s all-time greatest goalscorer is convinced the Croatian international would rather be elsewhere.
“I also look at the left-back, Borna Barisic, and see a player who doesn’t want to be at Rangers,” said Kris Boyd. “Every time I see him he just goes through the motions and I don’t get it. Whenever the going gets tough he seems to be injured.”
It’s pretty harsh words from the current Kilmarnock forward. He has been unrelenting in his criticism of the Croatian international.
And the fact that Barisic has just been called up to the Croatia squad means little to Boyd. He claims there’s a better left back at the club, and it’s not Andy Halliday.
“The best left-back in the building is Lee Wallace and yet he can’t even get into any of the squads with midfielder Halliday the second choice,” said Boyd. “That whole episode just stinks.”
It’s a pretty drastic claim by the striker, but his argument somewhat falls apart here. Wallace the best left back at the club? That’s a hard one to push.
And whilst Barisic has been out of form, are fans wrong to make him the scapegoat for Rangers’ poor results recently?
Boyd certainly suggests the player’s desire to be elsewhere has had a significant impact.
