Rangers star posts encouraging clip as rehab steps up with EL comeback a possibility

Rangers star Kemar Roofe posted an encouraging clip on his Instagram story on Monday as his rehab steps up, with a comeback later this month a possibility.

Roofe was forced off in the first leg of the Gers’ Europa League Round of 32 tie against Royal Antwerp last month with the latest in a series of muscle problems.

He’s since missed two matches and is set to be unavailable for further fixtures against Livingston and St Mirren in the coming days.

However, based on Steven Gerrard’s assessment after a 4-1 win over Dundee United last month that Roofe and Tavernier should return in “two or three weeks” [Glasgow Live], the striker should be available again by the middle of March at the latest.

Three weeks from 22nd February takes us to 15th March, which is right in between the two legs of the Last 16 Europa League tie against Slavia Prague and a week before the third Old Firm clash of the season at Parkhead.

Encouragingly, the ex-Leeds United and Anderlecht star has been at the training ground in recent days, posting an exciting clip of fellow absentee Tavernier over the weekend.

Then, on Monday, he showed his Instagram followers that he was stepping up his own rehab, with a bike session at Auchenhowie.

Roofe’s workout looked relatively gentle, but it’s an encouraging sign with a number of high-profile clashes on the horizon.

The 28-year-old has missed quite a few matches already this season with injury but has scored 12 goals and notched two assists from 25 appearances in all competitions, which constitutes an impressive return.

Many are looking to the Old Firm later this month as the date when Rangers will seal the title, but it’s possible that the Gers could be crowned champions this weekend.
