Rangers are set to miss out on top transfer target Dominic Solanke, at least according to The Scotsman.

The Edinburgh based paper reported this morning that Solanke is currently having a medical at Crystal Palace. This also means it is likely he’ll join the London club on loan.

It will be a slight sting to Rangers and their fans after reports from TalkSport earlier in the season suggested a move to Ibrox was on. Solanke has been linked with Rangers continuously over the course of the season, but now it seems like his destination will be Selhurst Park.

Plenty of interest in Solanke

With the likes of Sadio Mane, Mo Salah, Xherdan Shaqiri, Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi along Liverpool’s forward line, Solanke has struggled to get into the side.

He is still well thought of at Anfield but Liverpool are eager to get him game time via a loan deal. As a result, the striker has attracted interest from across Europe going into the January window.

Huddersfield and Palace were reported to be interested. As have Brighton and Fulham. The Scotsman also linked Bundesliga side Stuttgart to the striker.

However, one thing now appears true – he won’t be turning out at Ibrox.

Rangers lack real strength in depth up front and are on the hunt for real quality. The physical, athletic and robust Solanke would’ve provided the perfect folly to Alfredo Morelos. The Colombian needs someone to share the burden of scoring goals to help take the pressure off his shoulders.

If top transfer target Solanke moves on, Rangers will certainly turn their attention elsewhere.

Is this League One striker now Gerrard’s number one striking target?
