Should Rangers manage to secure the signings of George Edmundson and Joe Aribo, it’s not just the fact they’re Rangers players that we should be championing.
These are two of the best young talents in the English lower leagues. Players who are immensely highly rated by their clubs and those who’ve played with them.
And Rangers’ shrewd approach to business has reportedly netted them for a combined fee of £900k. That’s less than £1m.

George Edmundson has reportedly undergone a medical as Rangers close in on the 21-year-old centre half [Daily Record].
Edmundson, who’s been compared to Burnley’s James Tarkowski [Daily Record], will reportedly cost Rangers £650k. He has a year remaining on his current Oldham deal.
Joe Aribo is apparently set to tell Charlton boss Lee Bowyer he’s moving to Rangers today before joining the Ibrox side as they jet out to Portugal [Evening Standard].
An exciting signing, the goalscoring midfielder was reportedly attracting the likes of Premier League outfits Aston Villa and Southampton.
Because of cross-border compensation rules, Rangers will only have to shell out a reported £250k for the player.
What makes all of this so impressive isn’t just the fact that Rangers have captured the two players on such low-cost deals.
But also because they can very quickly become real assets for the club and increase their value more than ten or twenty fold. Young English talents are moving for silly money.

These boys may well be being primed to make Rangers a considerable profit in the future, but as for the present, we appear to be on the verge of signing two very capable footballers.
Two players who can improve our squad as we go for 55. And all for less than £1m.
