As ex-Rangers winger Neil McCann signs on as interim manager of Inverness Caledonian Thistle, the Ibrox support will be happy to see one of the club’s most popular former stars get a top job.
The one-time pacey winger has signed a deal at Inverness whilst current boss John Robertson takes an indefinite period of compassionate leave.
McCann, 46, takes up the role in the north of Scotland almost two and a half years on from when he left his last managerial role at Dundee.
Rangers fans are delighted for McCann but you can’t help but feel there may well be a tinge of sadness about the Scotsman’s move to the Tulloch Stadium.
For almost the entire season McCann has been a stand-out for Rangers fans on the club’s media and matchday coverage via RangersTV.
There have been plenty of occasions when McCann has grabbed the attention of Gers fans who quite simply love to listen to the balanced pundit’s views on football.
McCann is considered amongst the best pundits in the game north of the border but it’s that tactical and analytical insight which obviously also makes him attractive as a manager.
Not to mention the fact McCann was a top-class footballer with a superb left foot and the ability to grab a goal to boot.
You would imagine – even if it hasn’t been confirmed – that RangersTV will soldier on without McCann for the time being as he takes up a full-time role in Inverness.
