Rangers links to Leicester City defender Harry Souttar continue in the press despite Michael Beale suggesting there is no interest in the centre-back.

Football Scotland are the latest to muse over a potential Rangers move for the centre-back who has been bombed out of Enzo Maresca’s squad.

The Italian coach came in this summer following Leicester’s Premier League relegation with the defender signed to the tune of £15m under the management of now Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.

The report claims that the 24-year-old Australian international’s latest absence in the Foxes’ 2-1 win over Rotherham has “fuelled speculation” surrounding a move.

Football Scotland also suggest that any Rangers move for Harry Souttar could be dependent on what happens with former Preston defender Ben Davies.

Davies has struggled to leave an impression at Rangers and was reportedly the subject of interest from the English Championship earlier in the summer.

The claims come amid suggestions from Michael Beale that Rangers could add one new face before the end of the transfer window.

With the defensive injury crisis of last season still fresh in the mind, the addition of a left-sided defender has been the subject of much transfer debate in Glasgow.

However, the Rangers manager has previously rejected suggestions that Rangers are actually interested in a move for Harry Souttar.

After the links appeared in the press earlier in the month, Michael Beale said:

“Harry Souttar. There might be a bit of lazy stuff around that because his brother plays for us and he follows our club. If there is any news on that then you will be the first to know.”

Whilst Michael Beale didn’t exactly rule out a future move amid Rangers links to Harry Souttar in this rebuttal, the quotes suggest that a move is unlikely.

Attentions are now on who Rangers might turn to in the final few days of the window with the club having already added nine new signings this summer.

Harry Souttar also isn’t the only defender who has been linked to Rangers but one towering defensive option has now signed a new deal elsewhere.
