Rangers have been linked with a move for Leicester City defender John Souttar – but Michael Beale is playing down the rumours.
The Gers were somewhat unconvincing on Wednesday night, beating Servette 2-1 in the Champions League qualifiers.
Rangers were impressive early on and took a 2-0 lead through James Tavernier and Cyriel Dessers.
Beale’s men should have killed the tie off from there but instead allowed Servette to pull one back with a penalty.
Even a David Douline red card didn’t push Rangers on, meaning it’s only a 2-1 win for the Gers ahead of the second leg.
Many Rangers fans feel a little deflated after that result and one potentially interesting transfer rumour has been shot down too.
Michael Beale calms Harry Souttar rumours
Tongues were wagging as TalkSPORT reporter Geoff Peters took to Twitter to claim that Rangers want to sign Harry Souttar.
Peters suggested that Rangers fancy taking Souttar on loan for the season as he struggles for playing time at Leicester.
The natural link here is that Souttar’s brother John is already at Rangers and he could give Beale a strong defensive option.
Souttar was exceptional for Stoke City and even impressed at the World Cup with Australia.

That resulted in a £15million move to Leicester City in January, but Souttar has yet to find his best form for the Foxes.
Souttar is a giant defender at 6ft 6in tall and would bring something totally different to the Rangers back line.
However, this rumour has been played down in double-quick time with Beale pouring cold water on the fire.
Speaking to the Daily Record after beating Servette, Beale claimed that it may just be a lazy link because his brother is at Ibrox.
“Harry Souttar. There might be a bit of lazy stuff around that because his brother plays for us and he follows our club. If there is any news on that then you will be the first to know,” said Beale.
Rangers fans may have liked to see Souttar arrive but it sounds like Beale isn’t looking in that direction right now, although the door isn’t completely shut judging off his comments.
