Former Ibrox star Barry Ferguson has been discussing his nephew Lewis’ apparent links to Rangers – and appeared to aim a cheeky dig at the club in the process.

Lewis Ferguson was this week touted as a potential replacement for Glen Kamara [Scottish Sun] with Premier League clubs reportedly swarming around the Finnish international.

The reported move might’ve been rubbished by Rangers insiders [CRO], but it didn’t stop former captain Barry pointing out that the Gers let a young Lewis go.

“I’m not surprised that he’s getting attention. But it’s funny that Rangers have been mentioned when he was let go for being deemed not good enough,” said Ferguson [Fergie Time].

“I’m not surprised that teams are watching him. Whether it’s up here or down south.

“He’s progressing right and when the move comes I’m sure he’ll get the right move.”

Ferguson, 20, is one of the highest youth talents in Scotland and has been a key player for Derek McInnes and the Dons ever since breaking through into the first team.

Being his Uncle, it’s fair enough that Barry pointed out Rangers once let him go at youth level.

The club’s fans are largely split over any potential move for the Scotland youth international in the future, but from Ferguson’s comments one thing is certainly clear:

Lewis – who’s contracted to Pittodrie until 2023 – will be moving on from Aberdeen at some point.
