Some of Barry Ferguson’s recent comments suggest that he thought he still had a chance of getting the job as the Rangers manager.
A club record run of defeats at Ibrox suggested otherwise though and Davide Ancelotti has emerged as the favourite to lead the club into a new era.
He certainly has the gravitas and experience at big clubs as well as being used to having to win every game at clubs like Paris Saint Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Ancelotti might not have sat in the hot seat in his own right, however, his CV is considerably stronger than either Graeme Souness or Steven Gerrard when they were appointed at a similarly young age.
According to Chris Jack of The Rangers Review, there might not be long to wait until fans find out if Ancelotti is the man.

Davide Ancelotti to give Rangers answer on manager’s job
Jack has confirmed that talks between Rangers and Ancelotti’s representatives have taken place already.
The talks are said to have been “positive” with Ancelotti intrigued by the project and the opportunity to rebuild a sleeping giant.
The 49ers Enterprises takeover will be completed soon and a big name manager is exactly what Rangers need.
Regardless of his managerial experience, the Ancelotti name carries a lot of weight.
When will Rangers find out if Ancelotti is to be new manager?
Real Madrid still have two games left of their season, one that has been disappointing by the standards of the last two seasons.
Back to back La Liga and Champions League titles, with Ancelotti Jnr said to be the driving force on the training ground, isn’t a bad apprenticeship.
After the season finishes, Carlo Ancelotti is going to take charge of Brazil with Davide set to assist in his first two games, however, Paul Clement is going to join on a permanent basis.
The last Madrid game is on the 25th of May, which aligns with Jack’s reported timeline of Ancelotti giving Rangers a decision within the next two weeks.
It would be a good start to the new regime if sporting director Kevin Thelwell can get his and the 49ers’ top target, preferably sooner, rather than later.
