Rangers’ matchday programmes are no longer being produced by controversial media group Reach PLC as the club are lauded for finding a solution to the situation.

Rangers came in from criticism from across their fanbase for adopting the controversial media group – which owns the likes of the Daily Record – to produce their matchday programmes.

But now Rangers SLO Greg Marshall has revealed the club have “cut all ties” with Reach and have found a “cost-effective” way of producing them in-house.

“We have found a more cost effective option by moving those operations in house & as part of our media strategy have cut all ties with Reach PLC,” said Marshall [Twitter].

“The club will communicate the new way to purchase the match programme in the coming days. No existing subscribers will be impacted.”

The move was lauded by Rangers shareholders Club 1872 who described the decision to deal with Reach in the first instance as “extremely disappointing”.

“A welcome reversal of what was an extremely disappointing decision to deal with Reach PLC (Daily Record/Sunday Mail) in the first place,” said the Rangers shareholders [Twitter].

“We are pleased that the club listened to concerns and acted on them.”

Reach produce the programmes of numerous football clubs and this was obviously viewed as a cost-effective way of producing them for supporters on matchdays.

But such is the negative press driven by the likes of the Daily Record and the Sunday Mail in recent seasons Rangers’ media operations have limited their press access.

This will have a direct impact on the operations of Reach PLC who will have benefited financially from exclusive press access to the club.

This is to the delight of supporters who believe there is something more sinister regarding the coverage of the club and had previously criticised the club’s decision to work with Reach.

That made the news that Reach were producing the matchday programmes even more baffling but Rangers fans will be happy to know the club has found a more positive solution to the issue.

Rangers SLO Greg Marshall has also been in the press this week as he revealed a Scottish Premiership rival has actually apologised to Rangers for broadcasting some controversial coverage.
