Rangers’ Jamie Murphy finds net for Burton amid fan grumbles

On-loan Rangers winger Jamie Murphy has scored his second goal in as many games for League One Burton – just as Rangers toil in wide areas from the bench.

Murphy, now 30, has spent close to the last 18 months rocked by a cruciate injury sustained on Kilmarnock’s plastic pitch last August.

And as Murph finds form whilst trying to reignite his career at Burton, the likes of Sheyi Ojo have come under fire for their poor performances as impact substitutes at Rangers.

The inside forward opened the scoring against Rotherham for Burton but he was powerless to resist as the current League One leaders eventually churned out a 3-2 victory.

The strike followed up an earlier effort in the 2-2 draw with Wimbledon in the week and means that’s two in two for the former Brighton wide man.

A Rangers fan at heart, Murphy remains popular amongst the Ibrox support and they’ve been praising him for his upturn in form down south.

There is a sense of frustration around the boyhood bluenose hitting form away from Ibrox at a time when others are struggling.

But there’s little doubting that the player needed game time or he risked stagnating his career after the brutal Rugby Park injury.

Murphy has dropped down a couple of levels to play with Burton and things would be a little more intense at Ibrox should he have broken back into the team.

But what is true is that given he is a Rangers fan the player would be giving his all for the jersey as the Gers look to salvage a title challenge.

Murphy initially joined Rangers on loan in January 2018 and signed a permanent three-year deal with the Ibrox club later that summer.
