Rangers are reportedly one of four clubs interested in signing 24-year-old Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Cameron Dawson.
According to the Sheffield Star, Rangers join Championship clubs Blackburn Rovers, Derby County and Preston North End in the hunt for the talented stopper.
Dawson, who came through the ranks at Hillsborough, is yet to be offered a new deal with his current contract expiring at the end of the season.
Cameron Dawson was the Owls first-choice keeper last season, but under new Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk he’s found himself playing second fiddle to Irish international Kieran Westwood.
A Wednesday fan at heart, it could be a big wrench for Dawson to move on from the club but if opportunities remain limited Rangers could pose an interesting option.
Rangers are of course well stocked in the goalkeeper department, with legendary stopper Allan McGregor the first-choice between the sticks.
Now 37, Rangers will be looking towards a long-term solution to the goalkeeper’s eventual retirement.
It could be a little while yet with Steven Gerrard revealing McGregor has a clause in his contract which could see him sign up for another year [Evening Times].
Rangers also have very capable back-up in Wes Foderingham, who will also see his contract expire come the end of the season and has reportedly been interesting the likes of MLS side DC United [Daily Mail].
Loyal Ibrox servant Foderingham could well move on to get proper first-team football next season.
Rangers also have back-up option Andy Firth and talented Scotland U21 international Robby McCrorie on the books at Ibrox.
