Rangers are “holding talks” with Nottingham Forest over Jonathan Panzo but a deal to bring the centre-back is no closer to conclusion following the club’s trip to Germany.

That’s according to Football Scotland, who claim that the 22-year-old remains a target for the Ibrox club despite the move for Leon Balogun earlier in the week.

The report claims that whilst Jonathan Panzo is a leading Rangers target this window, the club remain locked in talks with Nottingham Forest demanding around £2.5m for the player.

Rangers have also reportedly heard the player’s wage demands with the situation not quite at a stalemate but not quite moving at pace either.

The Gers aren’t the only party said to be interested in a move for Jonathan Panzo either, with Rangers reportedly facing competition from Germany and England for the player.

The news comes at the same as Nottingham Forest are being linked with a move for Croatian international left-back Borna Barisic, who is a potential Premier League target this summer.

That said, despite these reports there are claims from elsewhere that Barisic is more concerned with striking a new deal and sticking around at Rangers after five years in Glasgow.

Rangers Jonathan Panzo talks continue

Rangers have been linked to Jonathan Panzo throughout the window with the former Chelsea youth defender well known to Ibrox gaffer Michael Beale from his time in west London.

The ex-England youth international centre-back spent last season on loan at Coventry City where he helped the Sky Blues to the Championship Playoff Final where they were beaten on penalties by Luton Town.

The addition of Leon Balogun at Rangers comes after teenage defender Leon King was ruled out with a long-term injury and the Nigerian joins Connor Goldson, John Souttar and Ben Davies as defensive options at Ibrox.

Jonathan Panzo could represent a fifth centre-back option for Rangers next season as the club look to avoid a repeat of the injury crisis which decimated the position in the last campaign.
