Premier League giants Manchester United have been handed a blow in their reported pursuit of Rangers defender Leon King as the youngster suffers a devastating injury.
Rangers took to social media to confirm that the 19-year-old centre-back had suffered a long-term ankle injury at the club’s summer training camp in Germany in a painful blow to everyone involved.
The Rangers statement on Leon King reads:
”Rangers FC can confirm defender Leon King suffered a contact injury to his ankle at the club’s pre-season training camp in Germany on Monday which will rule him out for a significant period of time.
“Leon is being looked after by the club’s medical staff and a further update will follow in due course.
“Everyone at the club wishes Leon a speedy recovery.”
Leon King injury comes amid Manchester United links
The youngster had a challenging breakthrough season at Ibrox last year, where injury issues forced the club to use the teenager in all six of their Champions League clashes.
Undoubtedly stronger for the experience, there was big hope Leon King would build on it this season with the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle United and Leeds United said to be watching the player prior to the injury.
The links came from renowned transfer source Fabrizio Romano, so there’s a belief they must have a level of substance, and it’s a testament to both the ability and potential of Leon King that the Premier League is watching.
But as Rangers looked to continue the defender’s development this season Leon King is readying an extended stint on the sidelines with the injury also a blow to would-be suitors Manchester United.
It’s fair to say Rangers are a selling club and with some of English football’s biggest names watching on the long-term plan is to cash in and make a hefty profit on the boyhood bluenose and academy graduate.
Those plans will now be put on hold as Leon King looks to bounce back from the terrible injury and everyone at Rangers News hopes that we’ll see the young Scotland talent back at Ibrox before long.

Before any potential moves to Manchester United or anywhere else in the Premier League, we want to see Leon King lifting trophies with Rangers and this setback is just the latest hurdle in his career.
Rangers have plenty of players in the squad who’ve gone through big injuries recently and the defender will have no shortage of support as he looks to bounce back and keep his exciting young career on track.
