Reports that Rangers are closing in on a deal for Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo have been shot down by a leading Scottish journalist.
Scott Burns has had his finger on the pulse with a lot of Rangers’ transfer dealings this summer and the Daily Record journalist took to Twitter off the back of the most recent Jonathan Panzo reports.
According to reports in the Daily Mail, who coincidentally broke the interest in Brighton’s Abdallah Sima, Rangers are now heading the queue to sign the centre-back, who spent last season on loan at Coventry City.
But those claims have now been rebuffed by Scott Burns who claims that whilst Rangers retain an interest, a prospective deal is no further forward and there remains Jonathan Panzo competition from England and Germany.
“Been told by sources on all sides that a move for Jonathan Panzo to Rangers is not any closer,” said Burns.
“Rangers remain interested. They know the fee and wages but have yet to trigger the deal. German and English clubs also remain actively in talks with Panzo’s camp.”
Scott Burns was first to the interest in Atalanta striker Sam Lammers and Cremonese forward Cyriel Dessers this season and is believed to be solid authority when it comes to Rangers.
Rangers remain in Jonathan Panzo hunt
Whilst the Gers do appear to be interested in Jonathan Panzo, a deal is clearly anything but done as fans await the addition of a new left-sided defender.
It’s an area Rangers have been extensively linked to this summer with Panzo reportedly joining the likes of Arsenal centre-back Auston Trusty on the Ibrox side’s would-be shortlist.

The Gers have also been very busy in other areas of the squad already this close season, addling five already with another three players in the club’s crosshairs heading into July.
Rangers have been extensively linked with a move for Ecuadorean midfielder Jose Cifuentes, whilst there have also been reports around Cremonese’s Cyriel Dessers and Feyenoord’s Danilo.
