Rangers are planning something of a clear-out this January as several of the club’s underachievers are linked with the Ibrox exit door.

The Gers are desperate to cut those players not justifying their hefty wages from the first-team squad as Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen set about rebuilding the club.

Rangers have already sanctioned a number of loan moves as the likes of Robbie Fraser and Cole McKinnon head to the Scottish lower leagues.

And now Alex Lowry has been posting an emotional farewell to Rangers fans as the 21-year-old playmaker confirms a switch to English League One side Wycombe Wanderers.

Alex Lowry moves to Wycombe Wanderers

News broke this week that Rangers were planning to cut ties with Alex Lowry three years on from the midfielder breaking through into the Ibrox first-team.

One of the most talented young players to come through the Ibrox academy in recent seasons, the Gers reportedly held off the likes of Manchester City and Newcastle United to sign Lowry down on a new deal.

But over the last two and a half seasons things haven’t gone to plan for Lowry, who has struggled to break back into the Rangers team.

After a largely unsuccessful loan stint with Hearts was cut short last season, Lowry found himself back at Ibrox and back in the Rangers B team.

The move to Wycombe Wanders will allow Alex Lowry to press the restart button on his initially promising career with everyone at Rangers wishing the kid all the best down south.

But after spending 14 years training at Rangers and coming through the club’s youth academy, Lowry was understandably emotional as he said his goodbyes.

Rangers talent pens emotional farewell

”After 14 years at a place I called home it’s time to move on,” Lowry wrote on Instagram.

”I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone involved with the club from the laundry staff to kitmen to the people in the canteen and everyone else, your help and time from the day I arrived to the day I left was incredible!

”It has been an honour to represent this club and a special thank you to Giovanni van Bronckhorst and staff for giving me my debut at 18 for this massive institution and to complete by childhood dream of playing for Rangers.

”Last but not least the fans, thank you for your amazing support from the time I broke through till now, I’ve appreciated every bit of it and loved playing in front of you whether than be home or away.

”Again thank you and all the best in the future!

”We are the people!”
