Rangers have been handed a transfer boost by Old Firm rivals Celtic after a story linking defender Shane Duffy was rubbished by a leading journalist.
Duffy, 29, has endured a torrid time at Celtic Park since joining his boyhood club and given the hype surrounding the Brighton loanee it’s provided Rangers fans with plenty of ammunition.
The entire thing is made worse – for Celtic at least – by reports which claim they forked out £2m in loan fees for the player and make up £25k per week in wages [Sky Sports].
It’s a ruthless business Scottish football and Duffy’s allegiances have set up for a scolding as Rangers fans twist the knife with Celtic now 21 points behind the Ibrox club.
You almost feel bad. I said almost.
Rangers fans were sarcastically devastated when reports popped up today that Duffy was being linked with a move to Nottingham Forest.
Duffy’s old Brighton boss Chris Hughton is in charge at the City Ground and according to the Scottish Sun the Irish manager could offer his countryman a reprieve.
However, leading Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has since rubbished the move by claiming that Celtic “expect” the player to be at Parkhead until the end of the season.
Celtic expect Shane Duffy to stay at the club until end of his loan.

It’s not exactly bad news for Rangers as they look forward to the next few months with 55 on the horizon.
Being such a big Celtic fan, it’ll be all the sweet having Duffy around to witness it.
It’s not the only transfer story involving the Old Firm to be rubbished today either, as leading Rangers fan media Heart & Hand refuted a high-profile link to Rangers this week.
