Rangers are set to be given a major Europa League boost as Borussia Dortmund’s star man, Erling Haaland is set to miss the tie according to a report from German outlet Ruhr Nachrichten.

The report stated that the Norwegian striker did not take part in Monday’s training session and worked with his personal physiotherapist instead, which means Dortmund will be depleted in an attacking sense for the crunch tie.

Haaland has been in exceptional form for the German side this season, scoring 23 goals in just 20 matches, and surely would have fancied adding to this total if he was playing on Thursday evening.

With the star reportedly having a £64m clause, his future is up in the air, and he is currently one of Europe’s hottest properties at the moment.

It hasn’t been a happy time at the German club as of late, with players bemoaning the side’s lack of consistency and defensive problems.

Add to that the poor results since coming back from the winter break, with a shock German Cup exit to St Pauli and a 5-2 thrashing by Bayer Leverkusen leaving the Europa League as their only realistic chance of silverware.

There arguably isn’t a better time for the Ibrox side to take on the German heavyweights and we could exploit their defensive weaknesses, especially with Alfredo Morelos being in such excellent form.

The tie is sure to be a mouth-watering one and even though winning the League title this season remains the number one priority, Giovanni van Bronckhorst won’t be taking this tie lightly that’s for sure.

The Ibrox faithful would love another European run, especially considering our recent progress on the continent.

Meanwhile, a former Rangers cult figure has issued the Gers a stark warning ahead of the Europa League tie.
