Former Rangers player Jörg Albertz has issued a warning to the Ibrox side ahead of their Europa League playoff tie against Borussia Dortmund as the match edges closer.

Albertz is a cult icon at the Gers, having played under Walter Smith and Dick Advocaat in a trophy-laden five-year spell which took in the end of the 9 in a row era and the revolution led by the Dutch coach.

The German knows all about the Bundesliga having featured for Fortuna Düsseldorf and Hamburger SV during his early career before moving to Rangers, and he has spoken ahead of the mouth-watering tie against Dortmund.

“The important thing is Rangers give themselves a chance in Dortmund,” said Albertz [SundayMail].

“I wouldn’t sit back against this team, they’re vulnerable at the back and make mistakes.

“On the counter-attack, if Rangers can create chances – especially with Alfredo Morelos on form – they can get success.”

Rangers can exploit Borussia Dortmund’s defensive frailties and give themselves a good chance

Albertz is right, the team is weak at the back, and they have conceded a whopping 36 goals in the Bundesliga alone this campaign, with 12 matches remaining.

They have shipped nine goals in their previous four matches, and although returning to form against Union Berlin at the weekend, there could be an opportunity for Rangers to exploit.

Players such as Marco Reus and Raphael Guerreiro have spoken out about their defensive woes, and this can only give the Ibrox side more motivation to go to Germany and get a result.

It will be tough, but after the side bouncing back following our Celtic Park performance with three wins on the bounce, confidence will be high heading into the match.

Speaking of the Europa League clash, Rangers look like they will get a welcome boost as some supporters will be able to attend the match.
