Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has turned down an offer to manage Bristol City, according to a leading Bristol-based journalist.
Gregor McGregor took to Twitter to announce that Steven Gerrard had declined an offer from the Robins as they look to replace manager Lee Johnson.
The journalist then wrote a report for Bristol Live claiming that the Gers gaffer would be opting to stay at Rangers for the time being.
The report also makes mention of Gerrard’s reported eagerness to eventually secure the Liverpool job with the contracts of both Rangers manager Gerrard and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp ending in 2024.
This news will be welcomed to Rangers fans who were never in any real doubt the Gers gaffer would leave Ibrox.
Gerrard was first linked to Ashton Gate by the Express who claimed the Rangers man was on a four-man shortlist of former Brighton boss Chris Hughton, Charlton’s Lee Bowyer and Plymouth Argyle’s Ryan Lowe.
Any proposed move was later rubbished by the likes of the Express and talkSPORT.
The suggestion from the Daily Mail that the Robins had instead opened a dialogue with ex-Brighton boss Chris Hughton appeared to all but kill the story dead.
But then Bristol Live would emerge with an exclusive which claims Bristol City’s billionaire owner Steve Lansdown retained hope of signing Gerrard as he looks to reach the Premier League.
This latest story appears to finally put any suggestion Steven Gerrard could leave Rangers for Bristol City to bed.
It’s just as well – there were plenty of Bristol City fans starting to get a bit excited by the prospect.
