The first half was uninspiring as the teams went in at the break deadlocked but the second half was a whole lot worse as the Buddies scored two through Mikael Mandron and sub Toyosi Olusanya.
The general consensus is now that Philippe Clement’s time at Gers should be up as fans expect the club to take action after hoping for the same following the Queen’s Park debacle.
Neil McCann agreed and listed four things Clement can’t do while admitting he doesn’t expect the manager to survive.
Clement attempted to dodge the blame and pointed the finger at the players instead.
The manager says his team looked nervous on the ball and in duels and he couldn’t understand why. although did admit it’s up to him to find the solutions.
He’s not the only one calling out the players.
Peter Grant calls out James Tavernier
While plenty of pundits were lining up to pile in on the manager, the team weren’t escaping the criticism.
Clinton Nsiala has been blamed for the first goal with Kris Boyd criticising Clement for selecting the youngster, something he insists Walter Smith would never do.
But James Tavernier has now had his role in it questioned.
He points out the captain was drawn to the ball instead of having the defensive instinct to cover in behind Nsiala.
Grant told BBC Sportscene: “I think it’s bad play in the first place. I think James Tavernier has got to be round on the cover, he shouldn’t go for the ball.”
Kris Boyd’s Rangers rant
Boyd said on Sky Sports: “I look at it right now, the manager just seems to be an energy zapper. The energy has gone from the stands, from the players on the pitch.
“Even looking at the staff sometimes, there is no vibe of, ‘I’m at Rangers Football Club and I’m proud to be there’ it is just going through the motions.
“That comes from…you need a leader, you need someone at the top.
“You just get the feeling it has now reached as low as it can possibly get,” continued Boyd. “The stands are empty, it has reached as low as it possibly has got.
“Philippe Clement we are used to him coming out with excuses, he looked defeated, you just feel it is time up.
“You’re going to have to pay Philippe Clement off anyway. It needs to be done now.
“I’ve been saying it for months, this has been on the decline for months, you can tell you only need to look at the players.
“Yes, they need to shoulder some of the responsibility but there is no style of play.
“You look at right now, for me, it can’t get any worse. Philippe Clement has got to go.
“Find an interim, put him in charge. Now. We have all been in dressing rooms where it is flat, it’s dead, it’s done. This is where it is at.
“He was done as well, you could tell. There was absolutely nothing yesterday, there was just an acceptance.”
