Kris Boyd is one of many who are now certain Philippe Clement has run his race at Rangers.
The Gers hero has regularly chimed in with his views on goings on at the club and the current manager and Boyd said Clement was clinging onto his job after defeat to Queen’s Park.
Going on to beat Hearts was all well and good but to then follow it up with a dire display and loss to St Mirren at Ibrox means the pressure is piling up on the Belgian once more.
Neil McCann has already signaled the Rangers death knell for Clement as he listed the four things the manager is incapable of doing.
Ian McCall asserted the Gers players have “chucked it” under the Belgian, a sign that worried him.
Boyd has now appeared on Sky Sports today to continue to bring the bad news for Clement.
Smith would never play Rangers youngsters at centre-back
The former goal poacher sees no signs from the manager or coaching staff that they have the confidence in themselves to turn things around.
He also picked out one decision from Clement which goes against the ethos of his former manager and club great Walter Smith.
Clinton Nsiala, 21, has been starting games recently and impressed to a degree. But he cost the team yesterday with an error to allow Mikael Mandron to open the scoring.
Boyd says Smith used to always insist that inexperienced players would cost you at centre half, with Danny Wilson the only exception.
Watching the footage of the goal, he said: “No foul either. You’ve got to be stronger as a defender there, young boy or not.
“I go back to Walter Smith saying that young boys will cost you at centre-back. I know he played Danny Wilson but he was exceptional as a young centre-back.
“You look at people like Craig Moore when they came to the club years and years ago, they were put out on loan, played at right-back, to learn their trade.
“Nsiala has come in and did okay but, for me, you’ve got to be stronger as a defender there. There’s no excuse, get yourself in the right position.
“He’s actually in a position where he can go and deal with it.”
Boyd in on-air Rangers rant
Boyd went on: “I look at it right now, the manager just seems to be an energy zapper. The energy has gone from the stands, from the players on the pitch.
“Even looking at the staff sometimes, there is no vibe of, ‘I’m at Rangers Football Club and I’m proud to be there’ it is just going through the motions.
“That comes from…you need a leader, you need someone at the top.
“You just get the feeling it has now reached as low as it can possibly get,” continued Boyd. “The stands are empty, it has reached as low as it possibly has got.
“Philippe Clement we are used to him coming out with excuses, he looked defeated, you just feel it is time up.
“You’re going to have to pay Philippe Clement off anyway. It needs to be done now.
“I’ve been saying it for months, this has been on the decline for months, you can tell you only need to look at the players.
“Yes, they need to shoulder some of the responsibility but there is no style of play.
“You look at right now, for me, it can’t get any worse. Philippe Clement has got to go.
“Find an interim, put him in charge. Now. We have all been in dressing rooms where it is flat, it’s dead, it’s done. This is where it is at.
“He was done as well, you could tell. There was absolutely nothing yesterday, there was just an acceptance.”
