Premier League side and former European Cup winners Aston Villa are not interested in Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, despite ambiguous comments from boss Dean Smith.

That’s according to the Daily Record, who claim that widely reported interest from the newly-promoted Premier League outfit is wide of the mark.

However, the news outlet does claim that Alfredo Morelos may well move on to the Premier League, just “seemingly not to the West Midlands”.

Morelos has been routinely linked with a move to Aston Villa in recent months, with Football Insider claiming that the Birmingham club was considering a £20m move.

Reports concerning Villa and Morelos began to intensify when Villians boss Dean Smith said he had watched Morelos score against Porto [Birmingham Mail] and didn’t deny the club’s interest in the player.

But clubs may well be heeding the warnings of Steven Gerrard [BT Sport] and Ross Wilson, who confirmed that Rangers are under no pressure to cash in on the Colombian forward and don’t want to sell.

This news will come as a great relief to Rangers fans who not only are determined to see Alfredo Morelos stay until the end of the season at least but who also want to see him move to a bigger club.

Bluenoses see Morelos’ future at a higher level than Villa with the hope that the striker stays at Ibrox and brings success to the club before moving on for a record transfer fee.

The Colombian international forward has 22 goals for the Ibrox club this season and can do no wrong in the eyes of the Rangers faithful.

The club’s supporters lauded the striker over the international break for breaking his duck with the Colombian national side.
