Premier League departure on cards for ex-Rangers star John Fleck

Ross Wilson previously admitted that Rangers will need to buy Scottish and John Fleck could be a good place to start.

The former Rangers academy graduate burst onto the scene at Ibrox under Walter Smith as a number ten but with Sheffield United, he has been a key figure in front of their defence.

Rangers shouldn’t normally entertain signing 31-year olds but, as a club trained player, John Fleck, out of contract, would be a good option.

Alan Nixon of The Sun has claimed on his Patreon site that there are question marks over whether or not Rangers-linked Fleck will be required in the Premier League.

The Blades defence, with former Gers number one Wes Foderingham in goal, has been a big reason for their success this season.

Part of that being Fleck’s role breaking up play and assisting the defence in playing out from the back.

It is a position that Rangers have struggled with but that John Lundstram seems to be the first choice in under Michael Beale despite being a more natural box-to-box midfielder.

Midfield congestion if John Fleck returns to Rangers

With Ryan Jack reportedly offered a new contract and Kieran Dowell said to be on his way from Norwich City, the midfield is starting to take shape for next season.

Nicolas Raskin, Todd Cantwell, plus Jack and Dowell is a decent quartet, and we could be quids in if we swap Lundstram for Fleck if there are any offers.

If the choice is between giving Scott Arfield an extension or moving for Fleck, then it should be the Sheffield United midfielder that we target.

Rangers are well catered for in the attacking midfield roles but it is at the other end where we are short and need cover for Ryan Jack.

Not every signing this summer will be exciting, some will be necessary, and Fleck could well be in line for a Rangers return.
