Players in trouble now Philippe Clement has been sacked by Rangers

Every manager has players who they feel that they can rely on and Philippe Clement was no different in his time at Rangers.

The Belgian’s departure has been announced with the latest Ibrox shambles the final straw for Patrick Stewart and those above him.

It might also be the final straw for these players who have been far from convincing at Rangers despite Clement’s insistence on playing them.

Five players whose Rangers future is now at risk

The list could be longer given how frustrating the season has been, however, in the case of individuals like Cyriel Dessers, he has at least scored a few goals.

Tom Lawrence

Out of contract in the summer, for some bizarre reason, Clement regularly insisted on starting Tom Lawrence away from home and in Old Firm derbies where he would frequently be anonymous.

At 31-years old and with a lengthy injury history, his time at Rangers is surely up.

Nedim Bajrami

Although Nils Koppen will have played a key role in his transfer as the recruitment director, how Clement has used him just hasn’t worked at all.

Technically, Nedim Bajrami looks like an accomplished footballer, but he doesn’t fit into Scottish football or what Rangers need at all.

Robin Propper

Signed as a wise, old head to lead the defence, Robin Propper has looked good in Europe but struggled against long-ball, direct, physical football in Scotland.

The SPFL is the bread and butter, and Propper just can’t cope against strikers who are happier with the ball in the air than on the ground.

James Tavernier

In fairness to Clement, it did look like he tried to replace the skipper, with Dujon Sterling first, and then Neraysho Kasanwirjo, only for the skipper’s resilience play a key role in helping him keep his place.

Regardless of form, his name is now associated with failure during his time at the club.

Ridvan Yilmaz

Clement has preferred Jefte recently but was intent on keeping Ridvan Yilmaz in January, a bizarre position to take given the young Turk’s fragile body.

It was reported that Rangers rejected a bid for Ridvan, a mistake that the next manager is unlikely to make.

This list isn’t exhaustive by any stretch of the imagination with Rangers set to have a fourth different manager in charge for another summer rebuild, for the fourth year in succession.
