Oscar Cortes gets the ‘guns out’ in Instagram injury update ahead of Rangers v Ross County

Rangers winger Oscar Cortes hasn’t exactly had much luck on the injury front at Ibrox.

The Colombian attacker, 20, joined the Gers on a more permanent loan-to-buy this summer after initially striking a six-month loan deal from RC Lens in January.

This was after Cortes suffered a devastating injury at Rugby Park in February which required surgery and effectively ended his campaign.

Handed the ‘number seven’ shirt at Rangers this season, Philippe Clement threw Oscar Cortes straight into the starting XI on the Scottish Premiership’s opening day.

But when Cortes pulled up in the 0-0 draw with Hearts, fans feared the worst for the ex-FC Millonarios attacker.

Not expected back in action until September, Rangers fans will be delighted to see Oscar Cortes back on the training pitch ahead of the clash with Ross County.

Oscar Cortes returns to Rangers training

Oscar Cortes has taken to Instagram to share a snap of himself back in Rangers training.

The Gers are hoping that this weekend’s clash with Ross County is the final game the club plays at Hampden and there will be some attention on Cortes in the days running up to the match.

We expect Philippe Clement to field some questions on the fitness of the winger but in the meantime, Rangers fans will just be happy to see Cortes back in training.

Cortes shared an image of himself at the training ground with a ‘guns out’ and ‘clasped hands’ emoji.

Oscar Cortes is one of a number of Rangers stars who have been carrying knocks recently.

No fewer than seven Rangers first-team players are carrying issues with Cortes having joined Nicolas Raskin and Ridvan Yilmaz as medium term absentees.

Rangers fans are also waiting on updates on Leon Balogun, Scott Wright, Tom Lawrence and Robin Pröpper following last week’s 2-0 victory over St Johnstone.

Dujon Sterling – who wore a protective cast on his arm in the Premier Sports Cup clash – is not expected to be absent due to the wrist problem.

Big things expected of Rangers winger

There are big expectations – and a big price tag – attached to Oscar Cortes at Rangers.

Having moved to France and RC Lens from his native Colombia, it didn’t work out for Oscar across the English Channel.

Rangers signed a £4m loan-to-buy deal for Cortes in the summer with the winger very much forming part of that ambitious new approach to player trading.

But so far the transfer of the winger has only raised eyebrows with Oscar Cortes no more immune from the Rangers injury curse than anyone else in the club’s squad.

Highly-rated in his homeland having shown flashes of ability whilst at Rangers, Ibrox fans want to see more from Oscar in the weeks and months ahead.

Despite his tender years, the Rangers management staff have big belief in the winger and let’s hope we can begin to see that pay off soon.
