Rangers have had a summer to forget on and off the pitch with Philippe Clement struggling through a difficult transfer window.

The manager hasn’t just had to put up with a slower than expected squad rebuild but play home games at Hampden with Ibrox out of commission.

At last, there has been some potential good news when Rangers announced that the venue for the 21st of September league cup clash with Dundee is at a venue which is as yet to be confirmed.

Rangers, according to Andy Newport of The Daily Record, have applied to Glasgow City Council for a safety certificate which could see a much needed lift for a frustrated support.

Three games have been played at the national stadium so far and it hasn’t been hard to gauge fan feeling towards the situation.

Despite being a key fixture against Dynamo Kyiv, Hampden wasn’t even close to being sold out and it was even worse against St Johnstone.

The latest footage from inside Ibrox shows that all the steel has been pretty much been installed with seats needing to be replaced and the concourses tidied up.

Rangers are obviously confident that this work can be completed in the next four weeks.

John Bennett proven to be a man of his word in Ibrox fiasco

Speaking at the end of July, things seemed a lot more uncertain as chairman John Bennett set about trying to explain when fans could get back into their proper seats:

“If I’m talking about timelines in terms of us returning to our home, which we all desperately want, then clearly after the September international break, and it’s a case of how long after the September international break.

“We can aspire – aspire, for that to be at the end of September but it’s an aspiration. I am sorry I have to caveat this and I think I’ve given the reasons I have to caveat it; the shipping situation. So yes I can have an aspiration – get our people back into our home for the final game of September. But yes, it could slip beyond that.”

So far, Bennett is a man of his word, even if he was tentative in terms of his prediction.

What it also looks like is that the work could have been completed for the start of the season had the shipments of steel not been delayed until July.

Rangers need to start ticking boxes off in terms of current issues, one of the big ones in the eyes of the fans, is getting back home to Ibrox.

The countdown is on.
