Ryan Jack has signed a new three year deal at Ibrox which will keep him at the club until 2021.
It’s a move that will excite fans as in the last few weeks, Jack has been rampant. He seems to be improving by the game and is fast becoming one of the first names on the team sheet.
Still only 26, we’re tying down a top talent going into the best footballing years of his life. But is there another role at the club Jack could fulfil some way down the line?
Ryan Jack is beginning to look like a readymade Rangers captain.
Commanding, vocal and experienced
This doesn’t mean I think that it should be taken away from James Tavernier. The flying wingback gets a lot of stick at times but he is clearly an important force in this team. He is always available and never shies away from taking the ball on.
That said, with interest from the likes of West Brom in the last window, I don’t know how much longer he’ll be at the club. Tavernier is now in his fourth season at Rangers and at 27, may have his head turned by a new challenge. As if being Rangers captain was challenging enough.
Rangers may also have theirs turned by a lucrative offer for the English right back.
Should he leave, the club need look no further than Ryan Jack to replace him. Still young, it’s the kind of responsibility which could lift his game even further. He’s commanding, vocal and coming on to his game at Rangers.
Plus, he’s got plenty of experience. Jack was handed the Aberdeen captaincy at 23.
