Neraysho Kasanwirjo makes Rangers teammate ‘clashes’ claim as Philippe Clement sweats on injury

Philippe Clement will be hoping that luck is on his side for Rangers over the coming weeks as he looks to drag his side up the table.

The manager will be hoping for a fully fit squad as the Light Blues fixture list throws up key games in three competitions, including an Old Firm cup final.

One player who Clement is sweating on after the international break is Neraysho Kasanwirjo who fell awkwardly playing for the Netherlands against England this week, just as he was starting to make an impact for Rangers.

Neraysho Kasanwirjo makes Rangers teammates claim

The 22-year old has been pushing James Tavernier hard and it seemed like only a matter of time before the on-loan Feyenoord defender made the right-back role his own.

Speaking to SoccerNews before his untimely injury against England, Kasanwirjo gave an insight into why Rangers have struggled at times this season:

“Scottish football is less football-oriented. They take fewer risks. I often still look for the footballing solution,” said the versatile defender.

“My teammates are less football-oriented. That sometimes clashes. I try to find a balance in that.

“We have the same way of playing, the Dutch way,” Kasanwirjo said of the Eredivisie contingent at Auchenhowie.

“We are more football-oriented than the rest. That’s nice on the training field. That’s why we often seek each other out on the field.”

The irony that Rangers had a Dutch manager without a single Dutch player isn’t lost when a current player is suggesting that some of the current squad are lacking in footballing intelligence.

When will Kasanwirjo be fit for Rangers?

The mechanism of Kasanwirjo’s injury didn’t look good. There was no contact from an opponent and there was no speed or change of direction involved.

Initial fears on social media from Rangers fans were the worst-case scenario and that he had ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

As with any knee injury, the swelling will need to subside before a proper assessment can be carried out and the joint can be scanned.

Best case scenario is that Kasanwirjo has sprained his medial collateral ligament or has a small meniscus cartilage tear.

Clement isn’t a fan of having to constantly give injury updates, but his next one could have an effect on his January transfer plan.
