Neil Doncaster SPFL deal shambles after Sky Sports post-split disgrace

Neil Doncaster has struck again proving, for the umpteenth time, that Stewart Robertson and Rangers were right to attempt a coup.

The SPFL’s chief executive has lurched from one scandal to the next with a tenure littered with competitions left unsponsored, Rangers even going as far as to call for his suspension.

Add this to his inability to find a creative TV deal that future proofs Scottish football and you have someone earning £388k per year whilst doing little to earn it.

The latest shocker has seen Sky Sports reveal that, for the rest of the season, key fixtures won’t be televised and that a tense relegation battle will be ignored.

The broadcast package that Doncaster claimed was “a big moment in history” is seeing actions speaking louder than words by not even taking up it’s entire package.

Rangers tried to warn the rest of Scottish football but, as always, it fell on deaf ears.

A final day Edinburgh derby could determine a European place and the nature of the split could see relegation rivals going head to head with survival a 90-minute shoot-out away.

None of this action will be televised.

Instead, fans will be treated to a Celtic procession over St Mirren, a nothing game.

Is it any wonder that we are so far behind other countries when this is the best option presented to clubs across Scotland?

No individual deals, no Amazon or Apple, just a list of subscription services that sees Scottish football fans having to pay more than any other fan for a poorer product.

And that’s before we get on to Andy Walker.

At least Ally McCoist has been added to Old Firm derbies so that our ears only intermittently bleed.

Stewart Robertson might be stepping down but this doesn’t mean that Doncaster should be off the hook.

In James Bisgrove we have a Premier League operator, in fact, his time at UEFA makes him a Champions League level CEO and the SPFL’s top brass should be worried.

Bisgrove is a commercial specialist, he knows exactly what our product is worth and what companies will pay for it.

Unlike Neil Doncaster, who uses money that struggling SPFL sides need to survive, to pay an agency to do his job.

Rangers and Scottish football deserves better.
