Rangers look set to announce Philippe Clement as their next manager but it has been clear since the day that Michael Beale was sacked that Kevin Muscat has been a favourite.
The Ibrox decision makers have a big call to make given how the last two management tenures have ended, and how much they have cost the club.
With the end in sight, Alan Nixon of The Sun has revealed on his Patreon site why Rangers have gone with Philippe Clement and who were the backers of Kevin Muscat.

Why Rangers have made Kevin Muscat decision
There isn’t much between the two managers.
Both have a similar amount of experience and have won league titles.
Neither would cost a huge amount to be released from current contracts with Clement available immediately and Muscat into the last months of his Yokohama F. Marinos deal.
What Rangers have decided though, is that Philippe Clement’s European experience and success makes him less than a risk than Kevin Muscat.

The Australian clearly has an attractive style of play and it will be interesting to see where he heads to next and how he manages to adapt his aggressive system at a new club.
As claimed by Nixon, his position as a consistent contender is largely down to members of the board like Stewart Gibson who are based in the far east putting Muscat’s name forward and backing him all the way.
It looks though, like it has been the finest of margins that has seen Philippe Clement edge the race.
At seven points behind in the league, Rangers really need to start playing cohesive football and find a formula that works with the players that Beale has left behind.
Hopefully, this time, they have got it right.
