Rangers are now plotting talks with Belgian coach Philippe Clement as a potential replacement for Michael Beale.

The 3-1 defeat to Aberdeen on Saturday afternoon proved to be the end for Michael Beale less than a year into the Gers job.

Rangers pounced to bring Beale back to Ibrox in November of last year but he has already been given the boot.

The Gers are now looking into a number of potential candidates to replace Beale, with time being taken to identify the right man.

Rangers now interested in Philippe Clement

The Telegraph claim that Pascal Jansen, Frank Lampard and Kevin Muscat are both under consideration, as has been mentioned elsewhere.

They also report a new name in the mix though with Rangers believed to be considering Philippe Clement.

It’s suggested that Rangers want to speak to Clement and the other three names before deciding on a shortlist.

Clement hasn’t been mentioned anywhere else but he now appears to be a prime name in the mix for the Rangers job.

Who is potential Gers boss Clement?

Clement was a prominent player back in the day, racking up more than 250 league appearances for Club Brugge.

Clement spent time with Beerschot and Genk before a brief spell in England with Coventry City, going onto play for Club Brugge and Germinal Beerschot.

A former defender, Clement also racked up 38 caps for Belgium, featuring at the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000.

Clement stayed around football after his retirement in 2011, becoming a scout with Club Brugge before joining the coaching staff as an assistant and even caretaker manager.

Waasland-Beveren gave Clement his first proper managerial role and he did so well that he ended up moving on to Genk in 2017.

18 months – and a league title – there led to an emotional return to Club Brugge, where he won another two league titles.

Remarkably, Clement won three league titles in a row to dominate Belgian football with two different clubs.

Monaco came calling in January 2022 and Clement lost just 19 of his 76 games before being sacked in June of this year.

Tactically, Clement mostly favoured a 4-3-3 at Club Brugge but often switched to a back three with wing backs.

Clement shifted to more of a 4-4-2 at Monaco, featuring one full back bombing forward with the winger on that side tucking in, whilst the opposite full back would stay back to form almost a back three.

Recent Monaco sporting director Paul Mitchell hailed Clement for his ‘daring’ approach and the ‘great intensity’ in his team – two things Rangers fans would no doubt love to see in a new manager.
