Mohamed Diomande reckons the addition of Oscar Cortes can help inspire Rangers to more silverware this season.

The Ivorian midfielder, 23, and Colombian winger, 20, are very much the talk of the Ibrox steamie at present after making their full debuts in the win over Ayr United.

Whilst Mohamed Diomande still has a little bit to go to get up to full fitness, Oscar Cortes is very much fully fit and raring to go – and it showed at Ibrox.

The RC Lens loanee was named the Player of the Match as Rangers progressed in the Scottish Cup and his new teammate Diomande reckons it’s just the beginning.

Mohamed Diomande on Oscar Cortes

Speaking in an interview with in house Rangers media channel RangersTV, Mohamed Diomande was asked about Oscar Cortes.

Claiming that the winger is a “good player” that he is very “happy” to see Ibrox, the Ivorian tipped his teammate to have a big say on where the trophies go this season.

“Oscar is a good player,” said Diomande. “He is good in one-on-one situations.

“It is good that the gaffer got him. He will make the team stronger. I think he is a good player who can help the group to win something. I am happy that he is also here because he is a good player.”

Rangers signed Oscar Cortes on loan for the remainder of the season with an option-to-buy come the end of the campaign.

The winger has struggled since a reported €4.5m (£3.8m) move to France in the summer but is being tipped to have a new lease of life in Scotland.

Mohamed Diomande – very highly-rated in his own right – joined Rangers in a €5m (£4.3m) loan-to-buy switch from FC Nordsjælland last month.

Best yet to come from Rangers signings

Rangers boss Philippe Clement was also answering questions on Mohamed Diomande and Oscar Cortes after the victory over Ayr United.

The Gers manager had started all three of his summer signings in the match, including Portuguese loanee Fabio Silva, and Clement insists the best is yet to come.

“They showed good things,” said Clement. “They showed they are good players, good technical players, and they are just now two weeks here with us and you see already that they have a good connection with the team, they understand what we want to do.

“Of course it’s not perfect yet and it needs to become more natural but that’s normal after two weeks.”

Rangers will hope that both Mohamed Diomande and Oscar Cortes can improve in Glasgow, have a big impact on the squad, and help to secure silverware at the club.

The hope will then be to move them on for big profits as part of the club’s player trading model, which is central to the Ibrox business plan moving forward.
