Vaclav Cerny certainly made a splash as Rangers recorded a historic Old Firm victory at Celtic Park.

The Czech international winger, 27, made headlines after appearing to splash Celtic fans with water following Hamza Igamane’s late Parkhead winner for Rangers.

The incident has riled Celtic supporters, with Cerny even the subject of a Police Scotland probe as the Old Firm derby clash threatened to boil over.

Cerny himself has dismissed watergate, claiming that he finds the entire thing ‘absurd’. You’re not the only one Vaclav.

But such has been the legendary nature of the incident, the matchday shirt worn by Vaclav Cerny at Celtic Park looks set to fetch a fortune at auction.

Vaclav Cerny Rangers shirt v Celtic raising fortune at auction

MatchWornShirt is an online service which seeks to bring football fans closer to the game and give them the chance to ‘own a moment’.

After big football matches from around the world, the company collects memorabilia for sale with fans able to get their own little slice of history.

Rangers fans are certainly taking that sentiment very literally, with Vaclav Cerny’s MatchWornShirt from the Old Firm derby now set to fetch a fortune.

Back in 2022, Rangers signed a ‘multi-year partnership’ with MatchWornShirt which would see at least one jersey go up for auction after every game.

Remarkably, bidding for Vaclav Cerny’s shirt from the weekend’s victory over Celtic is already up at £24k at the time of writing with over 12 days still to run on the jersey’s auction.

The bidding exemplifies the cult hero status Cerny has now elevated himself too with ‘watergate’ set to live especially long in the memory for one lucky supporter.

Rangers loanee would ‘definitely’ consider permanent transfer

Vaclav Cerny has also been speaking about his Rangers future this week as he prepares for an international double-header with the Czech Republic.

Cerny is one of 11 Rangers stars on international duty this week and will hope to play a key role as Czechia get their World Cup Qualifying campaign underway against the Faroe Islands (H) and Gibraltar (A).

Whilst Cerny has been clear he has a Premier League dream, the Wolfsburg loanee has admitted he’d be open to a permanent switch to Rangers.

But the former Ajax and Twente winger has acknowledged that the particulars of the deal are out of his hands, with reports in Germany suggesting Rangers cannot meet Wolfsburg’s Vaclav Cerny transfer demands.

“I definitely do,” Cerny responded when asked if he could see himself at Rangers.

“But there are so many aspects that I can’t control. All I can do is be the best I can and keep up my form and numbers.

“There’s no time for that, we play every three days. I don’t have an option, that’s the only official one. I don’t know what will happen.”

Asked if Rangers had indicated any negotiations with Wolfsburg, Cerny replied: “No. I’m having fun with everyone as I go.

“Rangers will be going through some changes in the summer, there’s talk of new owners buying a large percentage of the shares.

“But nothing is confirmed, it’s just being talked about and written about in the media.

“It wouldn’t be right to discuss something with someone who doesn’t know what will happen in two months. It’s too early for that.”
