Rangers fans might’ve been hoping to see Lyall Cameron in action for Dundee as they visited Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership.

The Dens Park star has just signed a pre-contract agreement at Rangers and Cameron had the chance to be an instant hero at Ibrox by taking points off the Gers’ Old Firm rivals.

But when the team-sheets came out at Celtic Park, Lyall Cameron wasn’t even named on the bench and it’s probably a good thing considering Celtic ran out 6-0 winners.

The result moves Celtic 13 points clear in the Scottish Premiership and sends a reminder of the monumental task Rangers face to haul themselves into a title race this season.

Lyall Cameron playing through injury at Dundee

Dundee manager Tony Docherty has defended Lyall Cameron’s decision to move to Rangers this week and explained the player’s absence ahead of kick-off.

Docherty claims the 22-year-old missed the game due to an Achilles injury which has been plaguing the midfielder in recent weeks.

In fact, the Dundee boss reckons the fact Cameron has been playing through the problem is further proof of his commitment to the Dens Park cause.

“He played with it on Saturday and that just shows you the commitment that Lyall gives to the football club,” Docherty explained to BBC Sportsound.

”He has been playing for the last couple of weeks with an Achilles injury.

“The physio and medical team felt that playing Saturday, Wednesday he is not in a position to play tonight.

“It is something that he has had for a wee while but we made the decision to give him every chance and with the injury we are going to rest it down.”

Rangers must agree transfer fee with Dundee

Lyall Cameron will join up with Rangers at the end of the season after agreeing a pre-contract deal with the Ibrox club on deadline day.

Rangers will have to agree a development fee with Dundee over the transfer given the midfielder is only 22 and came through the youth ranks at Dens Park.

If Rangers and Dundee cannot agree a fee, the transfer will go to an independent tribunal who will rule on the fee the Gers are to pay for Lyall Cameron.

The Gers have experienced similar this season when a tribunal ruled Rangers had to pay Aberdeen over £600k for the transfer of Connor Barron.
