Transfer deadline day passed by at Rangers with only the pre-contract signing of Lyall Cameron making any headlines at Ibrox.

In fact, the Gers only made one signing this January with the arrival of Rafael Fernandes offsetting six first-team exits as Nils Koppen trims the fat in the Ibrox squad.

But despite a lack of winter activity, Rangers are already looking ahead to the summer with Lyall Cameron set to be the first of several arrivals.

And former Celtic midfielder and Rangers rival Scott Allan reckons the Ibrox support have the right to get ‘excited’ over the signing of the Dundee star.

Rangers should be ‘excited’ about Lyall Cameron

Lyall Cameron will join up with Rangers this summer after the 22-year-old signed a pre-contract agreement at Ibrox.

But the Gers have not been able to strike a January deal a la Glen Kamara due to the fact the club will owe substantially more than £50k in development compensation.

With Lyall Cameron to remain at Dundee until the end of the season, Scott Allan reckons Rangers have secured the signature of one of Scottish football’s brightest talents.

What’s more, the former Hibs midfielder reckons the creative maverick is ‘exactly what Rangers need’.

“He’s a player I’ve admired for a long time,” Allan told BBC Scotland. “I think he’s exactly what Rangers need.

“Lyall is a player who’s always looking to get on the ball, looking to create, passes the ball forward, something that Rangers fans should get excited about.

“Also, it’s good to see young Scottish players from other clubs taking the step to Rangers or Celtic.

“He’s seen his former team-mate Luke McCowan go and have a good impact at Celtic.”

Lyall Cameron hailed by Tony Docherty

Lyall Cameron has made over 100 appearances for Dundee after coming through the Dens Park youth ranks.

So naturally the Dundee faithful are a tad frustrated the midfielder has opted to move across the Scottish Premiership to Rangers.

Speaking about the transfer, Dundee manager Tony Docherty hailed the contribution of Cameron to the Dens Park club over the years.

Docherty also insists that Cameron will be ‘100%’ committed to the Dundee cause between now and the end of the season.

“Lyall’s been a fantastic servant to Dundee Football Club,” said Docherty.

”I think he’s now played 108 times for the club and scored 27 goals which for a midfielder, a one in four return is fantastic.

”More important than that, this season when I’ve asked him to step up to the plate with Luke (McCowan) going (to Celtic), he’s had 17 goal contributions, eight goals and nine assists, in 30 league appearances.

”I think that’s fantastic in any league you look at, so his numbers are up there high.

”Listen, what happens with that, when you’re that successful and you’re doing that well and the type of person he is, you’re going to attract suitors.

”That’s exactly the situation we’re in just now but full credit to Lyall.

”I’ve got a very good relationship with all my players but particularly with Lyall as well.

”Lyall is very much a Dundee player until he’s not a Dundee player and I can guarantee that he’ll be giving everything to help us achieve our objectives.”
