Leon Balogun has announced his exit from Rangers for a second time despite making an emotional appeal to stay at Ibrox.

Balogun pleaded with Rangers over a new contract as the season wound to a close, admitting he was open to staying at Ibrox if only the opportunity was afforded to him.

But in an emotional message on Instagram, Leon Balogun has officially announced his Rangers exit as he brings the curtain down on four years across two spells at Ibrox.

Leon Balogun admits manner of Rangers exit ‘saddens’ him

Leon Balogun has sent an emotional post to Rangers fans as he prepares to depart Ibrox for a second time.

But whilst the Rangers hero has paid tribute to the Ibrox support, Balogun admits that he’s upset that he wasn’t afforded the opportunity to give the club’s fans a proper goodbye.

”If I would have known that the last two games of the season were my last for the club, I would have made sure to say goodbye to all you accordingly,” reads part of Balogun’s statement.

”Unfortunately I wasn’t afforded that opportunity which saddens me as I would have liked to have round Ibrox one last time and returned all the love and support you’ve given me during my two stints.

”I don’t know when I’ll be back but I promise I won’t be a stranger. Thank you making me feel at home and approached wherever we met. You’ve become more than just my club, you’ve become family.”

Rangers already targeting Leon Balogun replacement

Attentions are already turning to who Rangers might look to in order to replace Leon Balogun ahead of next season.

Rangers have been linked to Cameron Burgess, the Ipswich Town defender and Australian international who has just suffered Premier League relegation.

There have also been Rangers links to Kevin Boma, the towering Estoril centre-back also wanted in the Bundesliga and reportedly valued at £5m.

Leon Balogun might not be the only Rangers defender to leave Ibrox this summer, with Robin Propper being tipped to return to the Netherlands.
