Kris Boyd has told Rangers to raid Hearts immediately for two of their key figures, and has not minced his words about why.
The former Rangers striker was speaking on The Warm-Up in the aftermath of a season that saw the Ibrox club finish third, win nothing and lose four consecutive matches heading into the final day.
Hearts, by contrast, came agonisingly close to the title, only to be pipped on the final day by Celtic’s 3-1 win against them at Parkhead.
Would Rangers have won the league if they signed Lawrence Shankland instead of Youssef Chermiti?
Boyd urges Rangers to raid Hearts now
Having been impressed by Hearts’ title charge, Boyd has expressed his desire to see the Gers poach Derek McInnes from them without hesitation.
Speaking as a Rangers supporter rather than a pundit, the Scot claimed that he would do everything to bring McInnes through the door as Rangers’ new manager.
Boyd also urged the Govan club to raid Hearts for Lawrence Shankland while they are at it.
He went on to provide his reasoning for it, explaining that Rangers’ domestic record has been “embarrassing” amid their obsession with Europe.

The Sky Sports pundit pointed out how Hearts came close to winning the title with a group of players who have developed a knack for getting points on the board in Scottish football.
Speaking on The Warm-Up, he said: “I’m putting my Rangers hat on here, I would go straight right now and get Derek McInnes in that door, 100%. I would also bring Lawrence Shankland with him as well.
“I know he’s been there for the last couple of years and everything, but Rangers – we’ll touch on Europe in a minute – there’s been this focus over the years in terms of Europe, Europe, Europe.
“Rangers need to get back to winning domestically because it has been embarrassing now for a number of years. They need to get players, and that’s what Hearts have done.
“I know they’ve come up short, but they’ve gone right to the end of this season with players that know how to win games of football in Scotland.”
Danny Rohl could leave amid links to RB Salzburg…
Who do you see replacing him?
What next for the Gers
Boyd is right. Hearts have done what Rangers have failed to do – assemble a squad of players who know how to win games in Scotland.
The Ibrox bosses know that too, as evidenced by Andrew Cavenagh admitting that the club now have a pro-Scottish bias in the transfer market.
McInnes’ name has been doing the rounds in managerial discussions in Glasgow, as mentioned by Keith Jackson, but it remains to be seen if the Rangers will act on it.
Cavenagh put such speculation to bed for the time being after coming out with full support for Danny Rohl.
However, Jackson is among those who believe that might just be a ploy to drive up Rohl’s price amid interest from Germany.
Should the German tactician depart, the Glaswegian outfit must push the boat out to bring McInnes and Shankland to Ibrox, as Boyd suggested.
