Kevin Thomson was left impressed with Rangers Chairman Andrew Cavenagh after meeting him recently.

Cavenagh was at Ibrox as Rangers lost to Celtic in the Scottish Cup, as he has been playing a more hands-on role since Paraag Marathe’s departure.

The Gers chief also met with Brian Laudrup, as he has reached out to former players in order to understand what it takes to thrive at the club.

Kevin Thomson makes SPFL title prediction after Andrew Cavenagh meeting

Thomson holds a firm belief that Rangers are favourites for the title next season after his recent interaction with Cavenagh.

The former midfielder has described him as an “astute” individual who can take the club forward.

Even if Rangers fail to win the league title this season, Thomson has backed them to be frontrunners come May 2027.

Speaking on The Breakdown Podcast, he said: “I have been lucky enough to sit in the company of Andrew Cavenagh for a glass of wine and pick his brains. He said he would come on (the podcast) for us.

“He is a real classy individual, really astute. I think Rangers moving forward are in real good hands. I won’t disclose what we spoke about but I even felt 10 feet tall over the fact he reached out to meet and have a chat.

“To give up his time when he is running multiple businesses was a touch of class. He is a real imposing character and a typical American who gets straight to the point.

“I think the club are in good hands when you talk about recruitment and the investment they have made. The harsh reality is that Rangers fans will just say ‘I want to win’ as that’s what the club wants and expects.

“But I’ve got a bold prediction. If they don’t have a successful year trophy-wise, I think they are in good hands to be favourites for the title next year.”

What are Cavenagh’s plans at Rangers?

Cavenagh has made it clear right from the start that he is not here for a quick fix at Rangers.

He wants the club to operate within their means and climb their way towards becoming the best team in Scotland consistently.

The £20m initial investment has brought about financial stability and signing four new players in January is a signal of intent.

While results in recent weeks have not been great, Cavenagh appears to be backing Danny Rohl, and given what Thomson has said, things appear bright for the Light Blues.

Cavenagh also plans to improve the infrastructure at Rangers, ensuring that state-of-the-art facilities are in place.

These all seem to be long-term plans and fans will be hoping that he can execute them and bring back the glory days to Ibrox.
