Keith Jackson has delivered a verdict on Danny Rohl’s future after Rangers lost to Celtic in the Scottish Cup.

The Daily Record journalist reacted as the loss against Celtic in the Old Firm was followed by a disappointing 2-2 draw in the Scottish Premiership.

The Gers led that game by two goals, but allowed their arch rivals back in it, failing to increase the lead over them in the race to seal the title.

Keith Jackson does not expect Rangers to sack Danny Rohl

Jackson believes that Rohl’s job is safe, as things stand, but knows that there needs to be a turnaround from the team.

If they finish third or fourth this season and then lose the first Old Firm next term, in Jackson’s view, it could be damaging for him.

He also does not expect them to win the league this season as they seem to have lost the psychological battle.

Still, things could turn around as they will face both Hearts and Celtic post the split, but they would need to win those games.

Jackson told the Hotline: “Danny Rohl can save himself if he can somehow, from a standing start, find some momentum and make some impact on the remainder of the league campaign. I think that’s unlikely.

“I’m not sure that Rangers have it within them now to recover from that and make a real tilt at the title.

“If Rangers don’t win the title, maybe come third or fourth, who knows? Danny Rohl will start next season under the cosh, and a defeat in the first Old Firm game of that season could be really damaging for him.”

Does Andrew Cavenagh trust Rohl to get the job done?

Following the takeover, which saw Andrew Cavenagh being appointed as the Chairman, Rangers hired Russell Martin only to part ways with him a few months later.

Rohl steadied the ship and got the side back into the title picture, for which he is being supported by Cavenagh.

Recent results have seen Steven Gerrard once again linked with the job, but as of now, the owners are backing Rohl and are not considering replacements.

That said, things may change if they end the season poorly, as Cavenagh could then look around to see if someone better could come in.

Things are in Rohl’s hands, but he needs to turn things around quickly.
