Rangers have already made a decision on replacing Paraag Marathe, who stepped down as Vice Chairman on Friday.

The Gers held talks with UEFA about multi-club ownership rules, as the San Francisco 49ers own Leeds United, where Marathe is the chairman.

Marathe then decided to quit the Rangers board, and along with him, Gene Schneur also stepped down.

Rangers open talks over replacement for Paraag Marathe

Rangers News understands that, as things stand, the club are not looking to promote anyone from within to become the Vice Chairman.

They would prefer an external appointment and are now considering their options.

Chris Jack, in the Rangers Review, wrote that discussions have been opened regarding a replacement, but no decision has been made on who the ideal candidate will be.

He has also claimed that Andrew Cavenagh has been more hands-on in recent months and is playing an important role behind the scenes.

Cavenagh keeps travelling from his base in Philadelphia and has invested a lot of time and money into the Gers.

Jim Gillespie expected to join Rangers as CEO in the coming weeks

Cavenagh and Marathe had previously signed off on Jim Gillespie joining the Light Blues as the Chief Executive Officer.

Despite Marathe’s exit, he is still expected to join Rangers in the coming weeks.

He will be working closely with Fraser Thornton, who is currently the interim CEO, a role he took over when Patrick Stewart was sacked.

Apart from that, the rest of the boardroom structure is expected to remain the same, and there will not be any upheaval behind the scenes.

Even though Marathe is no longer involved, the 49ers Enterprises are, and it would not impact their investment in the club.

What Gillespie is expected to bring to the table

Gillespie will be moving to Rangers after a successful tenure at St Mirren, where he served as a director and then the Vice Chairman.

During his time at the club, they achieved three top-six Scottish Premiership finishes, winning the Scottish League Cup in 2025, and also strengthened their financial standing.

Gers believe that he could help out on the financial side of things and also be a canny operational head to streamline things behind the scenes.

As he has been a lifelong Rangers fan, he has connections with the local community and knowing stakeholders is always beneficial.
