James Tavernier remains a well-wisher to his Rangers teammates despite drawing the curtain on his 11-year spell at Ibrox.

Danny Rohl is determined to oversee a squad overhaul this summer ahead of his first full season as the Light Blues head coach.

However, one of the biggest decisions the German tactician needs to make ahead of the new campaign is appointing a new captain after Tavernier left the club at the end of last season.

The Englishman’s exit from the Govan club turned controversial after an alleged fallout with Rohl ahead of his final appearance at Ibrox, but he is still revered in G51.

Who should Danny Rohl name as the next captain? Let us know in the comments!

Tavernier sends message to Nicolas Raskin after what he did

Tavernier was a divisive figure during his time at Rangers, with fans and pundits often questioning his defending as a right-back.

However, there is no question about his leadership, as evidenced by the respect his teammates held for him during his time with the Gers.

That is why it should come as no surprise that Tavernier was quick to send Nicolas Raskin a message after his goalscoring performance in Belgium’s 5-0 win against Tunisia on Saturday.

Raskin notably took to social media to express his delight at getting his name on the scoresheet for the Red Devils in their final warm-up game before their 2026 FIFA World Cup opener against Egypt on 15 June.

“Strong final test before the big stage”, he wrote on Instagram.

The post drew responses from Rangers teammate Tochi Chukwuani and former Gers defender Ridvan Yilmaz, and Tavernier soon joined in.

“Nicolasssss”, the former Gers captain wrote along with two raised hands emojis.

Rangers to cash in on Raskin this summer

Raskin is one of six Rangers players participating in the World Cup this year.

Andrew Cavenagh will be hoping that the 25-year-old has a strong campaign on the grand stage amid reports that the Premiership heavyweights will sell him this summer.

Raskin has two more years remaining on his contract at Ibrox, but there is a growing feeling that now is the right time for the club and the player to part ways.

Therefore, the ideal situation for Rohl and Co. is that the Belgian goes on to perform well for the Red Devils, so that his value goes up.
